Ingredients Needed:- 4 L whole milk, sitting in the fridge for 24 hours- salt

Directions:

  1. Carefully take out the milk sitting in the fridge

  2. Using a soup ladle or gravy ladle, slowly skim the cream off the top and pour into a mason jar.

  3.  Leave the mason jar on the counter so it becomes room temperature. (try 15-30 minutes)

  4. Shake the mason jar with your hands. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer. The process by hand should take about 20 minutes, about half the time with a mixer.

  5. Once you see butter starting to form in the jar, keep shaking until you have many clumps of butter and the butter milk is translucent.

  6. Open the jar and pour out the contents into a bowl. Remove the butter and form it into a ball with your hands, squeezing out any buttermilk. You can keep the buttermilk to drink it or use it in your favourite chocolate cake recipe!

  7. Rinse the ball under ice cold water and keep squeezing the buttermilk from the butter.

  8. Salt the butter to your preference!

  9. Enjoy with crackers, or homemade bread!
